Direct access schemes (DAS) are a way for riders aged 24+, or 21+ riders who have held an A2 licence for over 2 years, to obtain their full motorcycle licence. This is the category A, unrestricted licence that allows you to ride a bike of any size. This is a direct route as the name suggests, with training and tests carried out on motorbikes of at least 595cc.
Please note: You must have a valid CBT (or 2 years A2 licence) and have passed your Motorcycle theory test in order to obtain this licence.
DSA's comprise of two training modules, both of which are tested.
Module 1 is carried out at our training facility and is a specified off-road manoeuvres test. Module 2 is road riding test.
Bike hire and insurance is included when you book your DSA with us. We also have a selection of gloves, jackets and helmets for you to use, however please bring your own if you have them.
It is possible to bring your own bike to the test but please bring proof of insurance and valid M.O.T. with you.
On successful completion of your DSA you will receive your category A Motorcycle licence which allows you to ride any size of bike on a public road. You may also carry passengers and ride on motorways.
When you come to start your training please bring your driving licence with you. You cannot take the course without this.
You should also wear warm thick clothes for warmth and protection. Please wear the sturdiest pair of boots you have if you do not have motorcycle boots.
Courses start at 9am and finish at 2pm.
One of the days will consists of module 1 training in the DVSA test site so trainees can train where test is conducted. This allows for high first time pass rate, as if you don't pass module 1 you cant continue to module 2.
We usually stop for cuppa and bite to eat when we're out and about.
The training takes place at 8 North Harbour St, Ayr KA8 8AA.
Please arrive before 9:00am.
This is usually done over 5 days (including CBT), but please give us a call and speak to Pauline to discuss which course is right for you.
