AM Category Licence

Who is an AM licence for?

An AM licence is for anyone over the age of 16 who has passed their CBT and is either in the process of or has completed their motorcycle theory test.

What is the difference between a CBT and an AM Licence?

On successful completion of your AM licence you can carry passengers and no longer have to ride with L plates. There is also no need to ever renew your CBT.

However, you are still not able to drive on motorways, nor are you able to ride a moped or quad bike above 50cc.

What comes after the AM licence?

Once you have your AM licence you may decide you want to ride something more powerful.

An A1 licence is the next step. This licence allows you to ride a motorcycle or moped up to 125cc. An A1 licence also permits you to ride on motorways.
